Audio Reverb - Add Space to Any Recording

Place a dry vocal, guitar or voice memo in a small room, a hall, a church or a plate. Choose how much wet signal to blend in, let the tail ring out, and download MP3, WAV or M4A. Nothing is uploaded.

Rendering happens in this tab with ffmpeg.wasm. The audio file never leaves your device.

How the reverb is built

Real reverb is the sound of thousands of reflections arriving after the direct sound. This tool approximates that with FFmpeg's aecho filter, which feeds the signal through several delayed, quieter copies called taps. A short set of closely spaced taps reads as a small, hard room. A longer set, spaced further apart and fading slowly, reads as a large hall. Each of the five spaces uses its own set of tap delays and decay amounts, so the choice changes the feel of the room instead of only the volume of the effect.

The wet mix slider decides how much of that echo network is blended with the untouched original. A limiter runs at the end of the chain. Because the taps add to the signal, the reverb can push peaks past full scale, and the limiter catches them before they clip.

Choosing a space and a wet mix

Small room suits spoken word, podcast clips and drum loops that need a little body without an obvious echo. Large room works for acoustic guitar and group vocals. Hall is the general-purpose choice for strings, piano and pop vocals. Church is for slow, sustained material like choir parts, pads and ambient pieces, where the long tail becomes part of the music. Plate is the classic studio sound for vocals and snare, bright and smooth with a sense of space but not a particular room.

Start around 20 percent wet and add in steps of 5. Fast material, such as rap or hand percussion, tolerates less reverb because the tail of one word lands on top of the next. Slow, sparse material can take 40 percent or more. If a vocal sounds distant, the wet mix is too high or the space is too big; step down one room size before reducing the mix further.

The tail, length and export

A song that ends on a sustained chord keeps reverberating after the last sample. With Extend tail on, those reflections are kept, so the exported file runs a little longer than the original: about 0.07 seconds for the small room and up to about 1.9 seconds for the church. Switch it off to cut the result back to the exact original length, for instance when the clip has to line up with a video edit.

This is a quick effect rather than a mixing plugin, so the limits are worth knowing. It cannot remove reverb that is already in a recording, and it applies one setting to the whole file. Dry sources give the best results. Export WAV for further editing, MP3 for sharing or M4A for phones.

Reverb space guide

How the five spaces differ and where each one fits.

Small roomShort, tight reflections. Spoken word, drum loops, adding body to a flat recording.
Large roomLonger spacing between echoes. Acoustic guitar, group vocals, live-room feel.
HallWide, smooth, medium-long tail. Piano, strings, pop vocals.
ChurchVery long, dark decay. Choir, pads, ambient and slow material.
PlateDense and bright with no obvious room. Lead vocals and snare.
Wet mix0 to 100 percent. Typical use 15 to 35 percent.
Extend tailOn: the reverb rings out past the end. Off: the result is cut to the original length.
OutputMP3, WAV or M4A. Up to 200 MB per file, processed in this tab.

How to Add Reverb to Audio

Three steps, all inside your browser

  1. 01

    Add your recording

Drop in an MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, OGG or FLAC up to 200 MB. Dry recordings such as close-miked vocals and DI guitar show the effect most clearly.

A track that already has heavy reverb will turn into a wash. Start from a dry recording whenever you can.

  2. 02

Choose a space and a wet mix

Pick small room, large room, hall, church or plate, then set the wet mix between 0 and 100 percent. Leave Extend tail on if you want the reverb to finish ringing after the last note.

A wet mix of 15 to 30 percent adds depth without pushing the voice back. Above 60 percent the source starts to sound far away.

  3. 03

    Apply, compare and download

Press Apply, listen to the result beside the original, then export as MP3, WAV or M4A. If the tail is too long or too short, change the room and apply again.

Use WAV if you plan to mix the result with other tracks, and MP3 for posting a finished clip.

Audio Reverb Questions

How the five spaces differ and how to avoid a muddy result.

No. The reverb is rendered by FFmpeg compiled to WebAssembly and running inside this tab. The file is read from your device, processed there and returned as a download. It never touches a server.
Small room, large room, hall, church and plate. They differ in how many echoes are stacked, how far apart they are and how quickly they die away. A small room is short and tight, a hall is wide and smooth, a church is long and dark, and a plate is bright and dense with no sense of a physical room.
It sets the balance between the dry signal (your original) and the wet signal (the reverb). At 0 percent you hear only the original and at 100 percent the reverb is at its strongest. Most voice and instrument work sits between 15 and 35 percent.
Reverb keeps sounding after the source stops. With Extend tail on, the reflections are kept, so the file ends up slightly longer than the input, by up to about two seconds for the church room. Turn it off when the output must match the original length exactly; the result is then trimmed at the original end, which can cut the last reflections short.
Reverb stacks copies of the signal on top of the original, so the combined level can rise. A limiter at the end of the chain keeps peaks under full scale. Reverb also fills in the gaps between notes, so a busy mix can feel denser. Lower the wet mix or choose a smaller space to clear it up.
No. The spaces are built from multi-tap echoes using FFmpeg's aecho filter, which is a lightweight simulation rather than a measured impulse response. It is well suited to quick atmosphere for a clip, demo or voice-over, but it will not match a high-end plugin on a finished studio mix.
Not here. The effect is applied to the whole file. Trim the section first with the audio trimmer if you only need it on one stretch.
